Many popular smartphone manufacturers like Xiamoi, Sony, Vivo, Oppo have teamed up with Qualcomm to bring 5G devices by 2019. Qualcomm will supply the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem to major OEMs to commercialize 5G mobile devices for the sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum bands.
Reportedly Qualcomm will provide the first commercially announced 5G Modem solutions to major OEMs including Asus, Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Connected Technologies Limited, HMD Global – the home of Nokia phones, HTC, Inseego/Novatel Wireless, LG, NetComm Wireless, NETGEAR, OPPO, Sharp Corporation, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, vivo, Wingtech, WNC, Xiaomi and ZTE.
Senior VP & GM of Mobile at Qualcomm Technologies inc, Alex Katouzian said,”Qualcomm Technologies is deeply committed to helping our customers deliver next-generation 5G mobile experiences to consumers, which requires enhanced mobile broadband 5G NR connectivity enabled by 5G NR networks, mobile devices and the Snapdragon X50 5G modem.”

Devices by these partnered OEMs will be built on around the sub-6GHz and millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum bands starting next year. The Snapdragon X50 5G NR Modem will be availble for Always Connected PCs; head-mounted displays (HMD) for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR); and Mobile Broadband.
Mobile phones phones featuring 5G hardware and are designed to deliver extremely fast uplink and downlink speeds. The qualcomm X50 5G NR Modem will enable high speed and low latency for always connected PCs for faster browsing, downloads and uploads. The modem will also offer ultra-low latency for HMDs & will enhance Virtual reality, augmented reality, extended reality experiences with its increased capacity at lower cost and ultra-low latency – down to 1 millisecond.
Moreover qualcomm has teamed up with several wireless network providers including AT&T, British Telecom, Sprint, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, Verizon, Telstra, Singtel to bring the 5G handsets next year. It means qualcomm will continue as a industry leader with its 5G mobile chipset products and 5G ecosystem collaborations in support of aiming to deliver commercial 5G mobile devices based n the latest commercial 5G NR modem.
Also Indian Government has identified vacant spectrum bands to roll out 5G services which means soon we’re going to experience the superfast 5G network on our devices. The download speeds of the upcoming 5G mobile devices is expected to reach several giagabits per second. It’s expected that the chipset manufacturer company, qualcomm will showcase its demonstrations regarding the 5G ecosystem at the Mobile World Congress – MWC 2018 event in Barcelona.
