Back in 2015 Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced the Google’s station WiFi program in an event in New Delhi. This project aimed to provide passengers a high-speed internet connectivity through WiFi in more than 200 stations of India. Currently the Google station WiFi is available in around 249 railway stations, that will soon hit the milestone of 400 stations by the end of this year.
A spokesperson from Google said Gadgets 360, “We are currently testing a paid offer, although there will always be a free option with ads. From the beginning, we have said that the long-term goal for RailTel Wi-Fi service was to make it self-sustainable, and a paid model is an important part of that,”.
Google station wifi access was free till now, recently it goes paid in few railway stations of India. After connecting to the Google station WiFi network, users are getting two options to access the wifi. One premium option allows any user to access unlimited wifi for 24 hr at any railway stations across india for a initial payment of 19 rupees, another premium plan has 1 week unlimited google station wifi usage benefit for a payment of 149 rupees only.
Also a free plan is there for such users who are unable to pay, the free plan provides unlimited high speed wifi access for 30 mints, and speed will be capped after the given initial time period. Google has also rolled out the service in more countries including Indonesia. With the help of other ISPs the US tech giant is planning to expand their services and make their reach throughout the country. In upcoming days Google is planning to provide free WiFi in educational institutions of India.
