iOS 11.2.5 Bug - A Indian Language (Telugu) Character will Crash Your iPhone

Assuming recent reports, Apple is having a bad start of the year, from last couple of months the company has been facing several issues regarding slowing down older iPhones, including multiple new bugs & vulnerabilities onto their iOS. Recently a new bug has been addressed on iOS version 11.2.5 that will crash your iPhone if you receive a specific Indian language charter over your i-Message app.

A Indian Language (Telugu) Character will Crash Your iPhoneFew weeks back, reports were coming about “text bomb” – an malicious link which crashes an iPhone if user tries to open the message which contains the malicious link, apple was able to fix it. But the newly addressed bug is quite same, and it’s affecting almost all iOS 11.2.5 users at this moment. The bug is likely if an Indian language, the beside Telugu character is sent to your iPhone over iMessage, it’ll literally crash your device. The Messages will no longer open as the app is trying and failing to load the character.

Moreover, not only iMessage, popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Outlook for iOS, and Gmail can become disabled once a message is received. Your iPhone will keep rebooting as long as you tap the Messages icon as the system will unsuccessfully try to load the character again & again. But interestingly, Telegram and Skype appear to be unaffected. moreover it also works on the watchOS and macOS versions of Safari and Messages.

This new iOS bug was first uncovered by an Italian Blog – Mobile World. Right now you can’t fix this issue easily at your own, the only way to recover your affected device is to tell your fiend or someone to send you a normal text message, and then try to delete the thread containing the malicious character.

It seems, however, that the beta of iOS 11.3 is already immune, which is a good signal. Reportedly apple is focusing on iOS 12 on reliability and performance improvements, over new features. This bug is relatively new and Apple is already notified about this major bug just three days ago. So for the iOS 11.2.5 a incremental software update is expected in the upcoming few days with the fix.
