Whatsapp is one of most popular messaging platform. Currently whatsapp has more than 1 billion active users. But whatsapp will stop working on few phones from 31st December 2017.
This time the company is intended to end support on older devices for the lack of new features. In a blogpost, whatsapp said,“When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people’s use of mobile devices looked very different from today.
“The Apple App Store was only a few months old. About 70 per cent of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia.
“Mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 per cent of sales today – were on less than 25 per cent of mobile devices sold at the time.”
It clearly states the immense change the mobile market. Now almost more than 80% users use an android operating system. Old operating systems like Symbian Nokia have lack of new features. Whch pretends whatsapp to push new features on these devices. It’s one of the main reason for ending support on these devices. Currently whatsapp is being used on a variety of devices that runs on android, windows and iOS.Whatsapp will stop working on few older version devices from new year eve.
Whatsapp released a statement stating, “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp.
“If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone.”
As per the company, they will end support for whatsapp on devices running on windows 8.0 and older. Also whatsapp will be not working on Blackberry 10 from 1st January 2018.
